Ferguson
Ferguson's sole foray into Formula 1 in 1961 was groundbreaking, not for its results, but its technological ambition. Their P99 was the first four-wheel-drive F1 car to win a non-championship race, a feat achieved at the Oulton Park Gold Cup. Despite demonstrating the potential benefits of improved traction, particularly in wet conditions, the complexity and weight penalties associated with 4WD systems ultimately prevented Ferguson from achieving sustained success or widespread adoption of the technology in Formula 1. Their single championship entry remains a significant footnote in the sport's history of innovation.
