EMW

EMW, short for Eisenacher Motorenwerk, was an East German automotive manufacturer that briefly participated in Formula 1 during the 1950s. Their sole entry was a BMW-based car, originally built before World War II and modified for the new regulations. Competing only in their home Grand Prix, the 1953 German Grand Prix, the EMW effort was a symbolic, if uncompetitive, presence on the grid, representing the automotive industry of the German Democratic Republic. Despite their limited involvement of 1 races, with no wins or podiums, EMW holds a unique place in F1 history as one of the few Eastern Bloc constructors to ever participate.
