Michael Andretti is an American driver and the son of 1978 World Champion Mario Andretti. Already a CART champion, he moved to Formula 1 for 1993 as team-mate to Ayrton Senna at McLaren. His season was difficult, and he left before the end of the year after 13 Grands Prix, but he did reach the podium with a third place at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. He then returned to American racing and later became a successful team owner whose organisation pursued an entry into Formula 1.
