Tony Bettenhausen
Tony Bettenhausen was a hard-charging American driver, often dubbed the "Tinley Park Express," who competed in the Indianapolis 500 eleven times. While primarily a star of the American Championship Car series, his Grand Prix starts were limited to the Indy 500, which counted towards the F1 World Championship from 1950-1960. A fierce competitor, Bettenhausen led numerous laps at the Brickyard and secured two podium finishes there, including a career-best second place in 1951. He tragically died in a practice crash at Indianapolis in 1961.
