Paul Frère
Charles de Tornaco, known by his racing pseudonym "Frère", was a Belgian privateer who competed in the early years of the Formula 1 World Championship. Driving predominantly for his own Ecurie Nationale Belge team, he entered a handful of races in the early 1950s. While he did not score championship points, his participation as a passionate private entrant embodied the spirit of the nascent era of Grand Prix racing, where many independent drivers battled against the emerging factory teams. Frère's brief F1 career saw him start 11 races before his untimely death in a sports car accident in 1953.
