Rodger Ward was an American driver who won the 1959 Indianapolis 500, which counted as a round of the Formula 1 World Championship at the time. He also won the race again in 1962, when it was no longer part of the championship, and was a two-time USAC National Champion. His championship record includes 11 Indianapolis 500 starts between 1951 and 1963 with cars from Kurtis Kraft, Watson and Lotus, and a second place in 1960. Ward was one of the leading American open-wheel drivers of his era.
