Huub Rothengatter

Manfred Winkelhock's tragic death at Mosport in 1985 opened a door for fellow German Huub Rothengatter, who took over the Zakspeed seat for the final three races of the season. A journeyman racer, Rothengatter had made his debut in 1984 with Spirit, later driving for Osella and Zakspeed. Across 28 starts, he notably finished seventh at the 1985 Canadian Grand Prix. While never scoring a championship point, Rothengatter's perseverance allowed him to compete in Formula 1 for three seasons.
