Manfred Winkelhock
Joachim Winkelhock, brother of Manfred and uncle of Markus, is most famously remembered for his single, albeit highly unusual, Formula 1 race start at the 1989 French Grand Prix. After failing to pre-qualify for multiple races with AGS, he finally made the main grid at Paul Ricard, only to retire early due to a clutch issue. Despite his brief F1 tenure, Winkelhock enjoyed a successful career in touring car racing, notably winning the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans. His family's deep roots in motorsport, marked by both triumph and tragedy, add a poignant layer to his F1 footnote.
