Gunnar Nilsson was a Swedish driver who raced for Lotus in 1976 and 1977. In his second season he won the 1977 Belgian Grand Prix at Zolder in the wet, and he scored 4 podiums in just 31 Grands Prix. Nilsson finished eighth in the 1977 championship and was set to move to Arrows before he fell seriously ill. He died of cancer in 1978, aged 29, and the Gunnar Nilsson Cancer Foundation was created in his memory.
