Tony Maggs

Desmond "Dessie" Maggs was a South African privateer who competed in a handful of Grand Prix races in the early 1960s. Primarily known for his participation in the South African Grand Prix, Maggs drove his own Lotus 18, embodying the spirit of independent racers during that era. While he never scored championship points, his presence added to the character and burgeoning international flavour of Formula 1 in its formative years. He competed in 27 races, achieving no wins or podiums.
