Surtees
The Surtees Racing Organisation, founded by 1964 World Champion John Surtees, competed in Formula 1 from 1970 to 1978. Unique as the only individual to win world championships on both two and four wheels, Surtees aimed to build a competitive constructor, often designing and engineering his own cars. While the team never achieved a Grand Prix victory, they secured 2 podium finishes and participated in 260 races, demonstrating a persistent, if ultimately unfulfilled, ambition to reach the sport's pinnacle under a legendary driver's direct guidance. Their history reflects the challenges faced by smaller, independent teams in the sport's evolving landscape.
